From 713-701 BC the Earth was affected by a close encounter with Mars. This affected all the calendars of the world, changing them from 12 lunar months of 30 days each totaling 360 days to a year of 365 days.
The events of Esther (Purim) took place around 465 BC which is after the Mars effect necessitated the addition of another month, Adar II. This extra month was inserted to get the lunar months back in sync with the harvest seasons.
