Counting down to Yom Teruah!
The Month of Elul starts the count-down to Yom Teruah and Yom Kippur. Elul is considered the last lunar month of the Jewish civil calendar. It is during this month that the condition of mankind is thoroughly examined and personal preparation is made for Yom Kippur.
This was the month that Yeshua went into the wilderness to fast, pray, and at the end of the month, be tempted by satan.
As we observe the count-down to Yom Teruah and Yom Kippur such sadness we feel. Mankind is only getting worse in their rejection of their Creator.
We can and do rejoice that The Father has deliverance planned for those who seek Him and His Son. We look to the future when The Father will again deliver.
These are the observance aids our family uses to count the month of Elul to Yom Teruah, and Yom Kippur. Feel free to use these aids to begin your count.
- Blow the Shofar - Print two on the same page by rotating paper and putting through printer again. Cut in half length-wise.
- Psalm 27 - Print two on the same page by rotating paper and putting through printer again. Cut in half length-wise. Psalm 27 is read each of the first 28 days.
- Deuteronomy - Print inside then turn paper over and print outside on other side of paper. Fold lengthwise. This is read on Elul 29 and Ethanim 1.
- Shofar Stickers and Chart - We print the stickers on "sticky paper" and use them with the chart to count the days of Elul to Yom Teruah and Yom Kippur.
- Calendar stickers - We print these on "sticky paper" and put them all on the calendar once we know when the new moon that starts the month of Elul has been sighted.
